Refreshing sleep

Contrary to my pessimistic beliefs, I slept very, very well during my sleep study last night. The technician showed me my sleep report card and it seems to reflect a good night’s sleep. Maybe I need to go to bed in a tangle of wires every night!

I’ll post my sleep report once I figure out how to work this Internet thingy.

Moving is big sux

After the elation of finding and getting the perfect house comes the sobering reality that we have to get our current house ready to sell. There aren’t many major things that need doing, the only exception being new flooring in the kitchen. The rest of the work is in cleaning, uncluttering, and the like. The detail stuff.

New phishing scam targets Latinos

Got a hangup call this evening from the number 503-898-9988. No message was left, so its the same M.O. as the car warranty scams I’ve blogged about before.

A perusal of 800notes.com shows the calling party plays a Spanish recording telling the caller he’s won a prize and to press 1 for an operator. I’m not sure what happens next as no one’s posted anything, but it sure sounds fishy. Apparently speaking English to the calling party is enough to get you disconnected, from what people have said.

The calls are targeting the Triangle, Colorado, and the San Francisco areas, according to the posted reports. My Spanish is nonexistent, so I can’t bait these guys like I might’ve done for Great Atlantic Warranty.

If you’ve gotten a call like this, please send me a comment describing your call. And please post on 800notes.com, too!

Freddie Mercury

Whenever I hear a song by Queen I can’t help but think of the frontman: the late, great Freddie Mercury. The more I listen to Freddie sing, the more I appreciate his amazing vocals. He had an absolutely incredible vocal range and could turn that voice on a dime. I can think of few lead singers who could do what he did.

I think the Queen/David Bowie song Under Pressure shows best what Freddie could do. Watch him and Queen perform Under Pressure in Wembley Stadium in 1986 Watch how he works the crowd. Just masterful! I get goosebumps watching it. Is it any wonder that Queen’s 20-minute set at Live Aid was voted the best live gig of all time?

Freddie, your life was much too short, my friend.

Forwarding address

Looks like we’ll soon have a new forwarding address: 1108 Tonsler Drive in downtown Raleigh. We made an offer on the house and it was accepted tonight. From the time we first looked at it to the time we had an offer ready was less than 24 hours. Truth be told, when first we turned onto the street I knew instantly that this was where we are going to live.

Gen Drebery is an unwelcome guest

This is the second comment spam I’ve seen on my site(s). When WordPress emails me about a new comment, the new spam looks like this:

What’s going on here?

This is a little disconcerting. The London Sunday Times claims that the FBI denied the existence of a document whose existence the Times later claims to have confirmed. The document in question allegedly regards an investigation of a Turkish and Israeli nuclear-secrets smuggling scheme: one in which American officials are alleged to have taken part.

So far there has been no mention of this in the American press, from what I can see. Not sure what’s going on here, but I think the activities involved are serious enough to warrant further investigation.

Staying put

Well, in spite of our near-herculean efforts we couldn’t come to terms for that downtown house so we’ve withdrawn our offer and are staying put for now. Its a bummer but sometimes you can’t work things out. We were really excited about the house, but these things take some measure of flexibility and unfortunately flexibility wasn’t in abundance here.

We’re not giving up on living downtown, though. I’m sure we’ll find something soon.
