Saw today that Lulu is moving their offices to Hillsborough Street in Raleigh, convenient to N.C. State and its hungry and often carless computer science undergrads. All I can say is its about time.

Koopman Kountry
Looks like the tide is turning towards Rodger Koopman being the new District B city councilor, booting Jessie “Needs to Listen More” Taliaferro from office. I’m hitting the streets again today to get the word out about Rodger.
The election is Tuesday. Will you be voting?
Rain!
I hopped off a conference call this afternoon and was surprised to see it actually raining! Woohoo! Of course I grabbed my umbrella and went out in it. How could I not?
I did have to hook up my downspout to my water tank again, as its been hanging idle for two weeks. In just a short amount of time the light rain added dozens of gallons of rainwater to my tank. I guess I got about 80 gallons from an hour’s rain. So much that I chose to drain the tank into a garbage can to make sure I saved every drop.

Taser abuse, again
Last year an Alamance County man mouthed off to an Elon cop and the next day the cop tasered him for no apparent reason. John Wayne Paylor was essentially assaulted by the cops in what was clearly revenge.
I support the police but there’s no way anyone can excuse this behavior with a straight face. If Paylor caused an incident the day before, why was he not arrested right then and there? This cop should be looking for work now, if not looking at a judge as a defendant. I’d be embarrassed about this if I were a cop.
This makes you wonder how often this happens and no one finds out about it.
Motion-activated air filter
I’ve noticed that when my cat paws through her catbox it raises a lot of dust. I run an air filter near it but I don’t want/need to run it all day or turn it on by hand every time she uses the catbox.
Its the Internets to the rescue! This gentleman blogged about a motion-sensor outlet, which turns any appliance into a motion-activated one. Now I can hook the air filter up and only have run it when the cat’s near the catbox.
Problem solved. Thanks for the tip, Joe!
Kampaign For Koopman
The Rodger Koopman for City Council campaign, of which I am a part, will be canvassing neighborhoods this weekend and are looking for volunteers to help. We’re starting at 9AM and working neighborhoods in North Raleigh.
In addition, Kelly and I will be hosting a Meet and Greet for Rodger Koopman this evening at our home from 5:30 to 7. Hope to see you there!
TSA going after toys now
I agree with Titivil on this ridiculous story: our ever-vigilant TSA is going after remote-controlled toys. Going after remote-controlled toys may be prudent on the streets of Baghdad where they might be used in a booby-trap, but on an airplane?

Breaking news from the N&O
I think this is the most obvious headline I’ve ever seen in the News and Observer. Yeah, this is why I get a paper.
Thank you, N&O, for bringing this important matter to my attention.
Context and the Internet
Mark Cuban has some important thoughts about what the Internet has done to context. Worth a read, and something I’ve not considered before.
On the other hand, this isn’t new to celebrities. The tabloids collect a file full of pictures of a celebrity’s differing moods. When that celebrity has a down week, the papers will run an angry picture. When its a happy occasion they’ll run a happy picture. I guess when everything gets recorded this is to be expected.
How miserable was Raleigh’s summer weather?
I was just looking over the climate summary records at the Raleigh NWS office. Its pretty depressing stuff: August was the hottest month ever recorded for Raleigh. Now that September’s in the bag it will be interesting to see how many 90-degree days it held.
Below is the public information statement describing this summer’s records. The facts and figures from the official climate summary is here.
