Carolina Wrens nesting nearby?

For the past few days I’ve consistently noticed Carolina Wrens flitting around the hiding places directly behind our house. While they’ve appeared at the feeder for three years now, they’ve always returned to a nest somewhere in the nearby woods. Until now, that is.

I’m guessing by their behavior that there’s now a nest hidden somewhere near my back door. I’m scratching my head as to exactly where it could be, as there aren’t a lot of hiding places for a nest, but the way they retreat behind what plants we do have rather than to the woods makes me think their home is very close to our home.

I love Carolina Wrens as the little birds have serious lungs on ’em. One of the cheerful little guys can practically wake a neighborhood.

Update: When I said “near my back door,” I didn’t expect it was literally right under it! Two wrens came flying out from under the deck when I walked out this afternoon. I haven’t peeked under there yet but I’ll bet money that there’s a nest under there.

Annapolis awaits

I’m off to Annapolis again today as I will be conducting product training tomorrow and Wednesday. Then its a trip back home Wednesday night to be ready for an 8 AM demo Thursday.

Fortunately we had a fun weekend so being away won’t be as hard as it could’ve been. Check wid’ ya later, yo.

Wolfpack beats Heels

Congrats to Coach Tom O’Brien and the N.C. State Wolfpack for holding off a gutsy Tar Heels team for a 31-27 win at Carter-Finley Stadium today. It was a nail-biter right to the end. Definitely a classic.

That’s four in a row, better than I expected O’Brien to do in his first season. Go Pack!

Children’s House of Raleigh fundraiser tonight at ComedyWorx

Raleigh’s own laugh factory, ComedyWorx, is holding a special fundraiser tonight for The Children’s House of Raleigh, a Montessori-based school MT.Net readers know is dear to my heart. ComedyWorx is an improv comedy group along the lines of Whose Line is it Anyway? but funnier because Wade is in it.

The show starts at 7 PM and the tickets are $20 (tax-deductible as they go to support the school). Come out and enjoy some industrial-strength laughs tonight. Do it for the children!

Supporting the rock ‘n roll lifestyle

We learned last week that Kelly’s cousin’s husband Jim’s (got that?) band Romantica would be playing the Pour House last night, and so they did. Kelly and Scott got to see ’em while I hung out here with the kids.

After the show, both Romantica and the band they’re touring with, Mando Saenz, crashed here. Six sleeping musicians were scattered around the house when we started our day! Everyone was really cool, though. Its a shame they couldn’t stay longer.

They gave us a few CDs that I’ll listen to today. And next time they play here I’ll be the one who goes to the show!

Tuscany Industries now ‘Alpha Service’

Remember the Tuscany Industries car warranty telephone scam I’ve been following? They’ve now calling from a CallerID claiming to be Alpha Service with the number 702-520-1274, and leaving the toll-free number 877-700-5880. Once again, the pitch is to “extend your car’s warranty.” An MT.Net reader claims these calls originate from Great Atlantic Warranty of South Florida. Wouldn’t surprise me.

If you get calls from these clowns, please report your call at 800notes.com under the appropriate number. And, please, don’t reward these crooks with your money!
