Scott is now officially a hero, having volunteered to ride in this weekend’s MS 150, raising money for multiple sclerosis research for the National MS Society.
Why not kick in a few bucks to Scott’s campaign and become a hero yourself?

Despite being hung up on Friday, another Tuscany Industries (or Upgrade Now) car-warranty-expiring phishing call just came in, this time from 208-839-2686. This number, according to Google, is the mobile phone number of a man in White Bird, Indiana – an unlikely phisher. Falsifying their CallerID. Geniuses, real geniuses.
Since you clowns are most likely are reading this, let me tell you your days are numbered. You had a good gig while it lasted but I’m on to you. You’ve pissed me off and I will find you and I will turn the whole state and federal law enforcement teams on to you if that’s what it takes.
Roy Cooper’s office and I will have a conversation about this today. Count on it.
My buddy Scott Reston’s kid is destined for greatness. Read how he solved the mental puzzle his father gave him.
I was delighted to read about Garner’s Citizen Police Academy in the paper the other day, especially since I was one of its first graduates. Garner uses its Citizen Police Academy to give people a valuable look at the work done by police officers. I wound up gaining a new respect for our police.

…but not here. Yet.
You’ve probably heard the news of Wednesday’s inaugural flight of Virgin America, the geek-friendliest airline to date. With an in-flight entertainment system built around Linux, onboard wireless Internet, and power plugs at every seat, Virgin America appeals to geek customers like me.
Right now they fly between San Francisco and New York’s JFK airport, but will soon be adding more cities to their schedule. Wouldn’t be great if Virgin America came to Raleigh and offered our first Raleigh-San Francisco nonstop flight?
I signed up for Virgin America’s frequent flier program, eleVAte, with the hopes that if Virgin America sees many members in North Carolina, they might be willing to consider serving us. You can help, too! Go to the sign-up page and get yourself an eleVAte membership. Let’s bring the “Geek Airline” to the Triangle!
Sure is hot, innit? I’m missing those 60-degree highs right about now.
Greg’s post about his sixteen years in the Raleigh area reminded me that my own “area anniversary” just came up. It was August 2nd, 1992 that I began classes at N.C. State (and not long afterward that I stopped said classes, but that’s a story for another day). I’ve considered myself a resident ever since.

Just found out Wake Forest Basketball coach Skip Prosser died this morning.
Aside from perhaps cutting jimmy-punching player Chris Paul too much slack, I thought Coach Prosser was mostly a class act. My thoughts go out to his family, players, and fans.
I’m slow finding out about this, but ten days ago Wakemed and UnitedHealthcare apparently kissed and made up after UHC’s dropping the hospital from its coverage left many patients hanging.
Once I got laid off in May this became a non-issue for me, ironically. Still, its good to see that UHC recognizes the valuable care Wakemed provides. After the movie Sicko came out there is no doubt in my mind who the good guys were in this matter.
I’m considering starting a non-profit dedicated to reminding people of the wonders of sharing. As kids, we’re taught to share, and kids seem to understand the power of sharing. Yet there are many industries today trying their hardest to make sharing out to be a bad thing. I hope my non-profit might remind people of the amazing power of sharing.
Of course, I don’t know the first thing about running a non-profit, and only some idea of what I hope it might accomplish. It just seems like the right message at the right time, I guess. I figure things will solidify more as I progress.
