Fuel Cells

So, where is my fuel cell? Ten years ago they were supposedly ten years away.

I could deal with the drought two ways with a fuel cell. I could (quietly!) generate electricity for my air conditioner, heat my hot water, and produce my own water (though probably not enough to whet my lawn’s thirst). Sadly, without using hydrogen as a fuel the cell would produce carbon dioxide in the process, so it wouldn’t otherwise help on the green front.

So, why aren’t residential fuel cells on the market yet?

Happy Anniversary!

Today is my eight-year wedding anniversary. Life just keeps getting better.

Happy anniversary, Sweetie!

Back From VA

We got back this afternoon from Virginia and DC after a tremendously fun weekend. We visited Kelly’s parents, left our happy kids with them and then had a blast at the wedding last night. Kelly works as an editor and one of her long-time authors, Maya Ajmera, married David Hollander last night in an Indian and Jewish ceremony. Two weddings for the price of one! Kelly and I agreed it was the most fun we’ve had attending a wedding. The dancing and drumming was infectious, the food was fantastic, and the drinks were plentiful. It wasn’t long before everyone was enjoying themselves! It was fun to catch up with Kelly’s former Charlesbridge colleagues, too. I know now what made it such a great place to work.

In Virginia

We’re spending the morning with Kelly’s parents in Warrenton before Kelly and I leave the kids with them and head to DC for a wedding this afternoon. We’ll stay overnight in DC at a fancy hotel before heading south again.

Been a while since we’ve been to a wedding, this one Kelly’s boss’s. Should be fun!

Rodger Koopman

I was delighted to find out today that Raleigh’s District B has some real choice for next month’s election: Rodger Koopman. I think Koopman will bring a breath of fresh air to the Raleigh City Council, something it desperately needs. He gets bonus points for being a veteran and an IT geek like me.

Koopman is also steadfast against paving our nature parks, like Horseshoe Farm Park and my beloved neighborhood park, Durant Nature Park. In other words, Koopman will actually listen to his constituents. Imagine!

Koopman is attending some meet-and-greets tonight. I might show up to see what he has to say. For those who can’t make it, you can watch the Youtube campaign video from his run for Wake County Commissioner last year.

Long Day

First official day of Kindergarten for Hallie, and preschool orientation for Travis, neither of which I got to attend. Busy day of work. Painters here all day. Doctor’s appointment. Messing around with my Flickr account.

Long day. Time to turn in.

Sunday Wrapup

We had a good time at the New Hope Valley Railway this morning. We got there around 10:30, which is normally enough time to ride the first train. Today was a mob scene, however, and we spent thirty minutes just waiting in line to buy our tickets. It seems the railway can’t sell tickets fast enough and that leads to delays. I suppose it doesn’t matter, though, since they only have one train and one track.

New Hope Valley

We’re on our way to the New Hope Valley Railway this morning to ride the train, since its the first Sunday of the month. Kelly will stay here and get some of her new editing project done.

The weather this morning is fall-like, the first cool morning in recent memory. It should be a fine time to ride a train through the dry, dying woods!

Nice Lake Gaston Sail

We drove up to the Naylor’s lakehouse yesterday for an afternoon of sailing. The winds were a little on the light side, but steady for most of the day. We took the opportunity to sail as far west as we can: to the old Seaboard Air Line railroad trestle over the lake. There we got stuck in the shallow water, not having a chart (nor an accurate depth sounder). A few gentle pushes later and we were headed east again. The wind had died down a bit for the trip home and we had invested a lot of time just getting west. Thus, we cranked up the outboard for most of the trip back.

MT.Net DNS Changes

MT.Net may disappear from the Internets momentarily over the holiday weekend. Have no fear, I’m migrating DNS servers.

If you lose us, check back in a day or two and all should be well again.
