Two-wheelin’

I’ve decided to get into better shape, so I woke up early and dusted off my road bike. Its the first time I’ve ridden it since Kelly thoughtfully got it tuned up as a Christmas present. She left the tires flat on it (so I wouldn’t get wise to her surprise), so I had to pump them up first.

Time was ticking away. I rode up the street and back. Felt pretty good.

Well, I’ll just ride over to the top of the greenway, I thought. Hey, that didn’t take much time at all. What the heck, why not do the whole greenway circuit!

Moving on up

As you know, I spent the weekend doing more moving. Parking a storage container on your driveway is a great way to move: you can pack things at your own pace. I tucked the last items into our container this morning so tomorrow it can be carted back to the warehouse. Yay! I never thought we’d find enough stuff to put into an 8’x8’x16′ container but we did.

More promising showings

The weather was gorgeous this weekend, and as I’ve come to expect when the weather is nice there were mucho people out looking at homes. We didn’t get much visible traffic yesterday but today we did well with two showings: both of which went very well.

Odyssey to get transmission transplant

Well, the Odyssey will get a new lease on life after all. The local dealer has slashed the price of a replacement transmission to $1800 on account of our long-time service relationship. While its not a free replacement, I think its fair considering that Honda’s response when it became apparent this model had transmission issues was to extend the warranties to 100,000 miles. Since our van is at 120,000 miles ours is obviously beyond that window.

Busy packing weekend

Kelly was feeling mildly better yesterday, so she opted to entertain the kids while I spent all day loading more stuff from the garage into our PODS container. I managed to fill about ten boxes from things off our shelves. Then I broke down the three empty floor-to-ceiling shelves and made them ready to pack as well. While the shelves were helpful to have, now that they’re gone there is definitely more space in the garage.

I’m feeling a little wiped today, though. I’m hoping against hope that it isn’t my turn to get sick.

How dry I am

Humidity outside the office this morning: 100%.
Humidity inside the office this morning: 28%

This old building is a desert. You can’t touch anything without receiving a thunderbolt of static electricity. The two humidifiers I rounded up get emptied three times a day and never get the levels above 35%.

If I don’t come home one evening, please let my family know I’ve become mummified.

Kids TV shows

I picked up a couple new episodes of Popular Mechanics for Kids, the outstanding science TV show for kids. Boy, kids TV shows have come a long way since I was a kid.

Then again, there were some exceptional shows, ones that stand the test of time. These are the ones that didn’t talk down to their audience, though the audience wasn’t always kids. The Flintstones, for instance, aired in prime time for an adult audience. The Flintstones would’ve been nowhere if Bugs Bunny and other Looney Tunes characters hadn’t blazed a trail almost thirty years prior with cartoons created for grown-up moviegoers and characters patterned after the Marx Brothers, among others.

Sleep report

I am fascinated with the details on how I sleep. I can directly observe almost all other aspects of my health but sleep is one thing I must rely on others to understand. After waking myself with grinding jaws, I gave a call to Dr. Garside Friday to get some sort of treatment going for my poor sleeping. I spoke with his nurse and asked to see the sleep report myself. After all, I paid handsomely to have it produced, right?
