Everybody Knows

Damn you, Jeff, for getting the Duhks’ music stuck in my head! 🙂

Everybody Knows
The Duhks

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That’s how it goes
Everybody knows

Anyone want a kitten?

I found a kitten on the way home from work yesterday. It was cowering beneath a planter on Fayetteville Street, trembling in fear. I think it was abandoned. Seems to be in good shape, though, and quite friendly.

If no one claims it I’ll deliver it to the SPCA this afternoon.

Update: Home found for kitten! Thanks for all who responded.

Zenoss book

Oh, I forgot to mention this before we left for vacation. For the past few months I’ve been helping edit Mike Badger’s new book, Zenoss Core Network and Systems Monitoring. Its a good introduction to Zenoss for those who might have been intimidated by it before.

Mike and I used to work together years ago at the Raleigh startup company formerly known as NeTraverse (and even more formerly as Lastfoot.Com). It was fun working with him again.

Who knows? I may write a book yet.

Change I no longer believe in

Add my voice to those who, are sorely disappointed at Barack Obama‘s going back on his word in regards to the despicable Senate FISA bill passed last week. Its apparent that Obama is just another politician who thinks the U.S. Constitution is a “goddamn piece of paper.”

The Obama stickers are coming off the cars and the yard sign will appear on Craigslist within the next few days. Any further money I might have donated to Obama’s campaign will be going to the ACLU instead.

Adventures in canvassing

I spent Saturday morning canvassing a Cary neighborhood for the campaigns of Janet Cowell (State Treasurer) and Al Swanstrom (NC House 36). I love getting out and meeting people, especially when the weather’s great.

It was a fair guess that a lot of the folks in this upscale neighborhood would lean towards the GOP. Normally when I canvass I’m used to a list almost exclusively of Democrats, so having independents in the mix (and many undeclared Republicans) presented an interesting challenge.

Shredding it

We went on another family bike ride this morning, this time all the way to the end of the trail north of Shelly Lake. The kids were awesome riders of their Trail-A-Bikes and it was good training for Kelly and me.

Surprisingly, there weren’t a lot of trail users. Or folks at Shelly Lake, either. We had a few other cyclists out there but the crowds were elsewhere. It could be that it was too hot for others. We had fun, though!

Back home

We’re back in Downtown Raleigh (TM) tonight after a wunnerful week with Kelly’s parents. Out of the six days we were there, we took the kids to the pool 4 days. We also got in a fun afternoon of bowling: my first game in untold years.

This morning before leaving, the kids and Kelly’s dad treated the rest of us to a “circus” performance. It was quite a hoot!

I’ve got some canvassing to do tomorrow morning and some house fix-up chores I’d like to accomplish this weekend. With some luck we can get in another family bike ride, too.
