Robtex

When I noticed a store’s webserver was unreachable, I decided to find out why. With a little sleuthing I found that its nameservers were not resolving.

Normally when this happens there’s no trace of the company left on the Internet, but The Google took me to the robtex DNS tool. Thanks to this site, I was able to find the missing nameservers’ IP addresses and verify that these servers were indeed offline.

I consider it poor system administration to host your domain nameservers entirely in your own namespace for just this reason. If you make a mistake in a zone with your own nameserver, your whole foo.com site becomes invisible to the Internet.

I hope this major store gets itself back on the web soon!

Anyone know what this is? It’s a spot between Poole Road and New Bern Avenue.

It looks like a remnant of some now-defunct factory or something.

Chinese athletes lied about age

This is just shocking, I tell you. Shocking! Who would’ve thought it?

Bone tests on teenage Chinese athletes have shown that thousands had faked their age, often in order to keep competing in junior events.

A study in the southern province of Guangdong found one in five had lied, with some discovered to be seven years older than their registered age.

On another note, maybe I need to have a “China” category on MT.Net.

Raleigh police arrest prostitute in sting

I should have known when I read the headline saying “Raleigh woman arrested in prostitute sting.” Why wasn’t that plural, as there are many areas of Raleigh where prostitution is an ongoing problem?

Then I read the article. This particular prostitute was advertising on Craigslist, and set up shop in a hotel room. In other words, she wasn’t standing on Raleigh street corners, or working out of the city’s public parks or neighborhood streets.

If you couldn’t tell I’ve got a much larger problem with one of these scenarios, and what the woman was doing ain’t it. What two consenting adults do behind doors is their business. What they do in public parks is a different story altogether. When Raleigh decides to crack down on this business I’ll be much more impressed.
