Its been a really good day, part of my Father’s Day Weekend Extravaganza. The kids woke up happy, we breakfast, and then K and T went to a friend’s birthday party. H and I spent the morning planting the tomato plants Dad gave us. Then we went out to discover our neighborhood pool, Longview. We returned for lunch (the pool’s hours are 1-5 on weekends – huh?), and K and T joined us for a few good hours at the pool. Both kids swam like fish, too, which was a lot of fun.

Knackered
This week I’ve been burning the midnight candle at both ends, so no blogging tonight. Y’all have a smoky night!
Hey man, watch this!
My watch slid off my arm as I was biking to work this morning. Right there on the home stretch, too, where I was starting to feel light as a feather. I immediately fetched the bulk of it but the clasp couldn’t be found after two passes over the scene of the crime.
During last night’s show I felt the clasp working loose but simply put it back in place. Must have been all that clapping I did.
I hope this isn’t a sign of the kind of day to expect. At least it isn’t quite as hot today.
Update: I found the clasp! It was closer to the curb than I’d expected. I’d been going out to look on occasion today, hoping that the sun’s changing light angles would make it stand out. Sure enough it did.
The clasp is really no worse for the wear, surprisingly. A few extra scratches but nothing to worry about. It will be a good day after all.
Back from the R.E.M. show
I’m now back from the R.E.M. show and I have to say I enjoyed it. Its been a long time since I went to a concert and enjoyed every single band that played. The opening acts, The National and Modest Mouse, were awesome as was R.E.M. themselves.

Any itch is anywhere
Lookie! I got an email from the director of the FBI!!!11!! I guess he has to use a free email account due to government cutbacks or something. I guess the FBI had to close its Washington office, too, as the bureau now observes Central European Summer Time.

Three digit temperatures call for three dimensions
There are few places better to be when its sweltering outside than a cool movie theater. We took advantage of our Marbles membership and hot-footed it over to the IMAX theater for the noon showing of Bugs! 3D. We had cool prime seats in front of a five-story tall silver screen.
It was the Travis’s first theater experience, and Hallie’s second. For both it was their first time at a 3D movie. They had me laughing as they reached out and grabbed the butterflies appearing to fly right towards them.
We then moseyed over to the museum for an hour or two of play. All in all it was a great way to escape the heat.
(Incidentally, 3D movies are a great way of scratching the 3D itch I had.)
Something special
Today is special for some reason. Let me think….let me think…
Oh, yeah! Today’s our daughter Hallie’s sixth birthday! She made parents out of Kelly and me six years ago today. Now she’s a rambunctious kindergartener ready to take on the world. We couldn’t be prouder!
I pedaled my sweaty self from my office to her school today for a surprise lunchtime visit. Although I earned four bells on the MT.Net Stinkometer upon returning to the office, it was well worth it!
If you’re bored today, go back and reread the earliest details of Hallie’s life.
Neighborhood College draws to an end
Thursday night was my last class of Raleigh Neighborhood College. For twelve weeks I have trekked to Peace College or other locations around the city every Thursday night to spend up to four hours learning about city government and services. I have shared the experience with 20 other fine Raleigh citizens, each of whom has had something to offer to the experience. All that’s left to do is “graduate,” and that happens this upcoming Thursday evening.

Six years
Today we celebrate Hallie’s sixth birthday (which is actually June 4th). Amazing to think how far she’s come since those early, scary days.
Six wonderful years and many, many more ahead!
Weekend of Mythic proportions
We certainly made the most of our Memorial Day weekend! Saturday we went on a family sail at Lake Gaston, with even the kids taking turns at the helm. Once it was time to dock, we spent some fun time catching up with the Naylors.
