in Checking In, Travels

Back from Annapolis

Day two of training yesterday didn’t go as smoothly as the first day, and part of it is my fault. We were trying a new method of training (aside from the new trainer: me), and I didn’t test every aspect of the new environment. If I had, I would’ve discovered some tools were missing that we needed to use. I didn’t build the environment, but I am responsible for making sure it works and I didn’t do that. Fortunately we worked around it and everyone seemed to appreciate the new approach, warts and all.

The travel gods were smiling on me for this trip, too. Thanks to reduced traffic for Veterans Day, I was able to get from Raleigh to Annapolis in a record four hours, ten minutes! I think that record will stand for a while: I’m still blown away by it!

The trip back was even better, all things considered. I left Annapolis at 5:35 PM – the height of rush-hour traffic – and was in my driveway exactly five hours later! That trip also included a 30 minute stopover in Fredericksburg to fuel myself and the car. I cruised into the Springfield I-95 cluster@#$* at 6:30 and only crawled for a ten minute stretch. Sometimes it takes two hours to travel from Springfield to Fredericksburg but not last night. I was very happy with how things turned out.

If all that wasn’t enough, I was welcomed home by two beautiful signs on the door, decorated by my adoring family. With a family like this, how can I go wrong? 🙂

  1. I considered it, Chris. I really did. I got out late and didn’t know what the traffic was going to do so it was hard to predict when I’d get there.

Tell you what – I’ll give you a call whenever I’m in the neighborhood. Ralph, that goes for you, too!

  2. a stop on the outskirts would be way better than a trip through Richmond during rush hour 🙂
