Goodbye, CR-V

2001 Honda CR-V EX

This past Friday we said goodbye to our 2001 Honda CR-V, sold to a very happy young woman who answered our Craigslist ad. The CR-V had been in our family for over nine years and was a very good, reliable car. It was also a bit boxy for my taste and the 2.0l engine was underpowered for the car’s size. And it’s not electric, like our new Ford Focus.

For some reason it’s hard for me to say goodbye to vehicles. I suppose I like to take care of things and try to make them last. And vehicles become like a second set of clothes, in a way. They become part of one’s image.

For a while there we had four vehicles, though, with the CR-V, Odyssey, Focus, and the 2014 Kia Sorento we bought last week all taking up space in our driveway and garage. After hearing what the dealers would give us for trade-ins, we decided we would try selling the older cars on our own. This has worked out nicely for the CR-V and I’ve already had a few serious buyers inquire about the Odyssey. I am glad to find good homes for these cars but the whole process is a giant production that I can only stand about once every ten years.
