Action-packed weekend

I had an incredibly action-packed weekend. Friday evening I met up with Jacob and Kelly of Little Raleigh Radio to chat with an attorney who is interested in helping us out. When I got home my in-laws had arrived for their weekend visit.

Saturday morning, Kelly’s parents gave us some time to go out by ourselves so Kelly and I got out the bikes and enjoyed a two-hour bike ride over to her office and back. We took a route along Glen Eden but soon regretted it as we didn’t appreciate that Glen Eden has some difficult hills!

After our ride we had lunch and then my parents came over. We had a little time for snapping photos before heading out to Hallie’s violin recital. After hearing Hallie’s amazing performance, we snacked on cookies until we realized we had time for a proper lunch. We then headed over to Mellow Mushroom and enjoyed pizza and conversation.

Travis had a recital of his own, so we zipped back to Hopper Piano near our neighborhood and participated in the “parents’ orchestra” before joining Travis during one of his recital pieces. Afterward, we had more snacks. It was great fun!

Unfortunately, I developed a headache for most of the day following the bike ride. Only near bedtime did it finally subside. I didn’t let it derail our fun, though.

This morning, we saw Kelly’s parents off. Then we had lunch and while Kelly took the kids with her on errands, I took the dog for a walk. I then spent some time working on a community project of sorts. The family then hopped on our bikes and rode downtown to visit Artsplosure at Moore Square.

We learned yesterday that Hallie’s violin instructor usually plays Sunday afternoon at Tir Na Nog, so we happily realized we were in the right place at the right time. We watched them play a number or two before Hallie got a chance to play herself. She played the only Irish fiddle tune she knows but she played it like a champ! It was fun to watch!

I wore my “your stupid” shirt around town today and was amused at the responses it drew. Some guy at the bar in Tir Na Nog posed with me for a picture, he liked the shirt so much! On the street I heard others snicker with laughter as they would walk by. It entertained me all afternoon.

Around Artsplosure, we participated in a drum circle, watched a band or two, ate snow cones, and toured the marvelous Impressionist sculptures occupying City Plaza. Then we dropped Hallie off at her friend Lina’s house, picked up a six-pack of IPA at the Brookside Deli, and pedaled home to relax a bit.

The relaxing didn’t last long, though, as after we were fueled up again with food and beer, we promptly tackled a huge weeding job in our neglected garden. While it isn’t yet finished, a huge amount of work got done and it’s not nearly as intimidating a job to me.

Now my biking muscles are content, my garden is weeded, the community project is progressing, and I’ve got a good book waiting for me next to my bed. Oh, and the weather today was a perfect, low-humidity day with cool breezes and temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. What a weekend!
