Weekend (and week) recap

Let’s see. I had a birthday this week, turning 41. Had an after-hours meeting every day except Friday, when I took Travis to his piano lesson. Monday evening it was a meeting with the head of a major local institution. Tuesday it was a city council meeting. Wednesday it was the Raleigh CAC meeting. Thursday it was a contentious Parks Board meeting.

Saturday morning I had a conference to work in Durham, but cut it short to watch the end of the kids’ basketball games. Kelly’s parents arrived around that time and we spent some time visiting with them. Travis and his grandfather built a dinosaur out of the trash can and parts found around the garage. Kelly’s parents took the kids to dinner while we headed out to Papa Mojo’s for Cajun dinner and dancing. We got back late but had fun doing it.

Sunday would’ve begun after a delightful 8 AM but Hallie popped into our room around 4 AM and, half-asleep, turned on our light and complained about being hot. Kelly tucked her back in and then we slept until 8. We ate a pancake breakfast before Kelly’s parents took the kids to the museum while Kelly and I went for a run. I ran with Kelly for a total of four miles, which is far more than I’ve run in probably a decade. In spite of a few stops at intersections to catch my breath, we made it back home in under 44 minutes: an 11 minute mile. I wonder what I could do if I were in shape!

Kelly got cleaned up and met the family at the museum while I opted to clean out the gutters ahead of the heavy rain expected tonight. Two hours later I was done, letting me eat my lunch at 4 PM. We played a family game of Clue afterwards and then ate dinner and got the kids to bed. That’s a pretty full weekend if I do say so myself.

Up ahead: tomorrow’s East CAC meeting, followed by a trip to DC Tuesday evening and Wednesday for a meeting. Then I get to relax for a bit before doing it all over again.

Ah, life.

  1. 4 days without a post?!? Dude, I’m getting the DTs over MT.net!
