Chilly, active weekend

It’s been a chilly but quite active weekend for me.

Saturday morning, I slipped out of the house and hopped on a Parks and Rec bus for a tour of the proposed Honeycutt Creek greenway. It was quite an enjoyable tour of the proposed greenway routes, though when we got out of the van to view a particular site more closely we got cold quickly. My toes felt numb for the first hour. The tour gave us new perspective on the issues and nice to see the neighbors out in the cold with us, expressing some of their concerns. I think we all want to do the right thing with this project and I think folks will be satisfied with the outcome.

Well after noon I returned home to thaw out and get some lunch. Kelly brought the kids home from Marbles not much later and we hung around inside for a bit. It was fun watching an episode of Mythbusters with the kids – their first one.

After getting the kids some dinner, Kelly and I got ready for our friends’ dinner party. While a neighbor provided kidsitting for us, we enjoyed an evening of food and fun catching up with old friends. We returned home a little after 11.

This morning was a lazy wake-up, sleeping in past 8:30. That was a nice change from my usual 5:30 AM wakeup! The dog, however, missed his walk and made his displeasure known by not leaving my side all morning. Around 11 o’clock I gave in and on Kelly suggestion took him on a run. We were done in 15 about minutes which was fine for the purpose, as I wanted to see how long it took me to jog the path I usually walk. Also, not having done much running lately (nor much cycling), I needed to start gently. Still, that little bit of running made me feel great and cleared my still cold-stricken sinuses nicely.

After making the kids’ lunch and letting Kelly get in a run, we prepared for the 5-year-old birthday pool party of Travis’s friend, Carson. It was held at Gypsy Divers, which gave me the idea to dig up my dive certification and see if I could dive while the kids were in the pool. After filling out a one-page waiver, I got outfitted with gear and spent over 30 minutes floating around the deep end of the pool to the delight of myself and the kids. Now that I remember how much fun it is to dive I want to get Kelly certified so we can make some dive trips!

After the party, we joined Carson’s parents for some barbecue at The Pit. While the kids were so tired they couldn’t keep their heads up at the table, we did enjoy some good food.

It was a great way to end a very active and fun weekend.
