Seven Years Ago

This night seven years ago was one of the scariest nights of my life. Kelly was in the hospital seriously ill with preeclampsia, her vital organs slowly shutting down. I watched in terror as her blood pressure soared, feeling utterly helpless. It was a terrible feeling. I worried how it would all turn out.

And yet through it all was the chirp of a baby’s enthusiastic heartbeat, offering hope for a happy future. Sure enough, the next day became one of the happiest of my life when Hallie was born. We had to wait another 7 weeks to take her home, but we made it through. If only I could’ve seen back then where we’d be today.

In her young life Hallie has shown there are no barriers she can’t overcome. Our amazing girl turns seven tomorrow. Happy birthday, Hallie!

  1. Mark,
    Happy Birthday to Hallie!
I have never posted on a blog, so I apologize if I do something wrong.
I read your post regarding your fun day of adding insulation to your house!
Do you still see a difference with the energy bills and the noise?
Also, the previous owners of my house installed ridge vents, then had them closed due to the noise from the neighbor’s dog barking. I need some type of ventilation and I am thinking of opening up the ridge vents or adding passive pancake vents. Any input will be appreciated!!!
    I am adding insulation too!
    Tom

  2. Hi Tom,

Ridge vents are the best way to cool your attic. As for the insulation, it made a big difference and continued to right up to when we sold our house last year. If I had to do it again, though, I would add more insulation that we did. It tends to settle over time.

Another thing you should look into is a radiant barrier. They’re a bit more expensive up front but will make a big difference in reducing the radiant heat from the sun.

Good luck (and thanks for the comments about Hallie)!
