Long, busy, weekend

It’s been quite a long, busy weekend. Saturday morning, we participated in the SPCA dog walk around Raleigh. After doing 3K around downtown with a tired Labrador and somewhat tired kids, Kelly took Hallie off to her friend Suzanna’s birthday while Travis and I did ten miles of biking on the greenway. T and I had a “great adventure” at the foot of Lassiter Mill Falls, practicing skipping stones into the water, before we turned back and headed home. I never realized how beautiful Crabtree Creek is there, looking east from below the falls. I was wishing I had thought to bring my camera.

Once reunited, we all headed over to our neighbor Randy’s house for his annual “Earth Day Birthday” party. Live music, beer, and steamed oysters: yum! The kids tore around while we socialized. Our whole tired lot headed for bed too soon!

Today we had a leisurely wake-up. The we got dressed up and headed over to the N.C. State Arboretum for some family photographs. We got a few good shots and a lot of silly shots, but it was that kind of day.

We hit up the Raleigh Times for burgers after the Arboretum. While the food was good, it took a bit of time for it to arrive. I guess the place was slammed or something.

Upon returning home, I went to a local politician’s fundraiser and chatted with many familiar faces. Even got introduced to the crowd, which was a pleasant but unexpected surprise. I wound up staying well after the party officially ended, chatting with folks.

Kelly took “the beast” out for a run when I returned, while I tackled part of the too-tall lawn. Then the kids and I went inside for supper, with Kelly arriving soon afterward. We watched another great video in our “Planet Earth” BBC series before tucking the kids into bed.

Whew! Life gets faster and faster, doesn’t it?
