Renewing your license? Take the bus!

I’ve been dreading renewing my driver license because I never look forward to spending half a day waiting around. Since my license expires in two weeks my options were running out.

That’s why I was glad I went to the N.C. DMV website and discovered the mobile DMV office. It just so happens it would be downtown today and tomorrow, so I figured I’d take my chances there. My hunch was that since this office is mobile there would be no lines. I was right!

The mobile DMV bus was parked next to the building in front of the governor’s mansion at 100 E. Lane Street in a place I overlooked the first time I drove by. I circled back, found a parking place, and marched right onto the bus.

There were two DMV agents inside and I walked right up to the first one and got started with my vision test. Then I had my photo taken at the rear of the bus, after which I waited a few minutes for the license to “cook.” It took me justten minutes to get my license renewed, thanks to the mobile DMV!

The only drawback to the mobile DMV is because of the limited width of the bus the camera used for your picture is right in your face. As a result your head winds up taking up the whole frame! I’m already sensitive about my enormous noggin and seeing my shiny dome magnified on my ID photo was a bit disturbing. (And no, I will not post my driver license photo, smarty pants!)

Anyway, if you need to renew your license, consider “taking the bus.” It could save you half a day!
