Downtown hawk

Just looked out and saw a huge hawk sitting on the top of the Raleigh Times building. I’m used to seeing hawks near woods but this is the first I’ve seen downtown.

It was bigger than any other hawk I’ve seen. Didn’t seem to be a red-shouldered hawk or a Cooper’s hawk. I’ve got to check my bird book.

  1. I understand that Peregrine falcons are making a big comeback in NY City, roosting on the ledges of high rise buildings and bridges. They feed on rats and pigeons. I guess the big buildings are like rock ledges to them and rats are just food.
