I got the tire fixed today that went flat Friday night. Turns out it was a tiny hairline cut at the base of the valve stem. Bizarre.
Glad we had road hazard coverage, since it was fixed for free.

When we lived in Tampa, we were always getting flats. All the new construction just about guaranteed that there would be odd shapes of metal, not to mention nails, all over the roads. I think my experience was that roofing nails were the high probability item for the treads. There were at least two incidents of mysterious punctures in the side walls.
Live in a dead economic area and you can ride around forever on tires.
