The N&O’s new editor John Drescher is an idiot. In today’s column, he labels both Dole and Hagan as “dodgers,” claiming Dole and Hagan sidestepped important issues.
Drescher claims Dole dodged the whole Outlying Landing Field issue until the rest of the state had made up its mind.
That’s absolutely true. Dole was asleep at the switch.
Drescher also claims Hagan dodged whether she would support the recent bailout bill.
That’s a whopper, Johnny.
Hagan was asked (by whom is not made clear. It certainly was not a Senate vote) how she would vote on the bailout bill. Her response?
“That thing is changing morning, noon, and night. I don’t want a rush to action … Any bill that is passed needs … oversight and accountability, limit CEO pay, mechanisms to keep homeowners in their homes. And obviously is fair to taxpayers. I want to look at a bill in its entirety before I could say whether I could go for it or not.”
You mean Hagan isn’t willing to green-light a $700 billion payout without reading the bill? How dare she! And to give such a dodging answer like saying the bill “needs … oversight and accountability, limit CEO pay, mechanisms to keep homeowners in their homes. And obviously is fair to taxpayers.” Why, that’s simply too vague! There’s got to be some kind of trick here! Hagan obviously hasn’t been doing her homework!
In Drescher’s short term at the N&O helm not only has he slashed jobs but credibility, too. With asinine columns like this one its easy to see why.
