in Checking In, Mr. Fixit

Taking advantage of the weather

Another busy but fun weekend was had. I spend a good chunk of it doing yard work and cleaning gutters. I made a trip over to the old house Saturday afternoon, where I chatted with the new owners before fetching what brought me: two plants from the side yard that used to belong to my grandmother. I hauled the hydrangea and azalea plants to our new home and planted them in the side and front yards.

I also borrowed my neighbor’s ladder and cleaned out the gutters. It was only two weeks ago that I did this but in that time they had clogged again. This was especially apparent during last weekend’s massive downpours. I’d rather not stand at the top of a 24 foot ladder a couple of hours a month, so it may be time to explore other solutions there.

I took time out of working Saturday to meet the family at a friend’s birthday party. We enjoyed the socializing and the kids couldn’t have behaved any better. Good to see everyone.

Between gutter duty Sunday we all went to Pullen Park pool for some swimming. The kids didn’t disappoint: they must be part fish or something. Hallie’s swimming independently and Travis kicks through the water with gusto. Ran into my friend and former colleague Stacey at the pool, too.

We also hung many pictures throughout our home as well as a mirror over the mantle. I moved the house plants to various places from their temporary holding pen in the living room. I also adjusted the security light on the back porch.

Its starting to look like a home now. Woot.
