Getting on the bus

As I breezed through four straight traffic lights on the way home yesterday I figured I’d be home in record time. Right about then I heard something pop and then my bike began slowing down.

A flat tire: my first as a bike commuter. Fortunately my coworker was 50 yards ahead, getting into his car. He gave me and my bike a quick lift home.

We had our real estate agent over to the house for a visit last night so I didn’t get around to fixing my bike’s tire. Instead I took the bus in this morning, catching it in front of the church near my home. It cost a buck and was worth every penny for the conversation I heard. Folks were talking about the crazy crimes they heard about on Court TV. Very entertaining to hear everyone’s point of view. I was sorry the conversation had to end when the bus pulled into Moore Square station.

  1. Since you are now a dedicated cyclist you might want to consider signing up as a host for traveling cyclists. warmshowers.org

I just finished reading a fascinating blog of a family of four’s 9500 mile trip cross country from Idaho to Washington (including Orcas Island!) then down to California through Death Valley to Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon then back to San Diego, down to Mexico, back up through New Mexico and then all the way to Connecticut. Absolutely amazing. I spent most of the day reading their 355 page blog of the trip.

They often stayed at warmshowers hosts which inspired me to sign us up.

  2. dude, go to Harris Teeter and buy an 11 ride pass for 9 bucks….that’s 82 cents a ride!

I take the bus three times a week and actually get cranky when I have to drive!
