Party weekend

It was a bit of a party weekend this weekend.

Friday evening we had a Bennett Woods neighborhood party. A group of neighbors met in front of our homes to grill food, drink, and socialize. The kids had a great time meeting the other neighborhood kids and we enjoyed meeting our neighbors.

One neighbor looked familiar to me and I immediately realized she and I were neighbors before. Fourteen years ago, she lived with two other women in the same duplex I shared with my brother Jeff and friend Scott. Small world.

Saturday Kelly took Hallie to her friend Suzanna’s birthday party while Travis and I got some things done around the home. Then we wandered over to another neighborhood party at our friend Randy’s home. Many margaritas and oysters later, we walked back home and put the kids to bed (and put ourselves to bed not much later).

Sunday we got more stuff done. I drove to Chapel Hill and picked up a basketball goal I found on Craigslist. I bought two kids’ bikes for future use, too. Then I mowed the backyard (for the first time), balanced my rain tank, bought some parts for the basketball goal and assembled it, cleaned out the garage, hung the front porch plants, and managed to find time to shoot some baskets with the kids. In spite of being way behind schedule getting the kids to bed, we had to take a moment to enjoy the beautiful rainbow that appeared after the rain.

A rainbow is a pretty nice way to end a weekend. Pretty nice.
