Taxes out of thin air

Kelly and I finished up our taxes last night. I thought it was pretty sneaky that our tax software asked if we had a refund from last year. Seems the IRS taxes refunds now. I’m all for paying my fair share, but getting taxing on money that I don’t owe? Well, that’s a bit much.

  • Refund = money you don’t owe
  • Paying taxes on money you don’t owe = a legal fallacy worthy of Alberto Gonzales

And some people wonder why others don’t trust their government

  1. What about the death tax? What about the gift tax? Can you say double taxation?

Money was already taxed when earned. right?

  2. Mark,
If you are thinking along these lines, then why do you seemingly want to put someone in the White House that supports huge tax increases. Who do you think ends up paying the taxes placed on businesses?

That would be you and I, my friend!! The business would pass on their higher cost of doing business on to the consumer. The inverse of that is true if you were to decrease taxes.

Sorry, I should get my own blog so I can rant, instead of hijacking yours.

  3. Okay, Todd. Let’s take a look at that: why do you want to put someone in the White House who will continue this $2,000,000,000,000 war? Whom do you think pays for that? You, I, our kids, our grandkids, and possibly their kids, too! Eventually, taxes will have to be raised to pay for this debt. And China owns a great deal of that debt. That’s a threat to our national security.

McCain will continue Bush’s failed tax-and-spend policies. Obama will end this $2 trillion mistake. Seems a pretty clear choice to me.

  4. I would agree that Bush has failed the conservatives with his liberal spending from the White House and McCain does not seem to be much different. However, we have not been attacked again on our soil thanks to the policies of the Bush administration and the diligent fighting over in Irag and Afganistan. Have there been mistakes made? Absolutely! Has there ever been a perfect war? Never! (Maybe the American Revolution, wasn’t that fought over taxes?)

I would also agree that Iraq needs to take on more and more of the financial burden. I wonder what the world would look like if Al Qada (I know I messed that up) was allowed free reign in those parts of the world.

How many times does it have to be proven that lowering taxes increases revenue to the feds. If the feds can keep there damn spending under control. (Bush guilty of previous statement!!)

  5. I agree with some of what you said, Todd, except for one point.

We were attacked again: the deadly anthrax attacks that followed the September 11th. Has the Bush administration caught any suspects? Has anyone been charged? Does anyone even care?

Whenever given an opportunity to shine, the Bush administration has proven itself incompetent again and again. Its time for a change and McCain ain’t it, my friend.

  6. Wasn’t this tread about taxes?

    B. Hussein Obama has promised a windfall profit tax on Exxon/Mobile if he is elected. Land of the FREE?! What do you think that will do to the already high fuel prices? Maybe if we were allowed to drill more for our own oil, things would be different. Oh wait, the dems blocked us from doing so and Bush did not have the balls to fight them on it. (same with privatized social security!)

McCain admits economics is not his strength and will surround himself with those who are better informed than he. Obama scares me with his way of thinking!!

  7. Drilling here wouldn’t make the slightest dent in our need for foreign oil. Its not even worth considering.

I don’t think a windfall tax would do much to affect prices in the situation we’re in. Nor do I think Congress would be willing to go along with it.

  8. At least Bush’s liberal spending was kept somewhat in check by the few remaining conservatives in Congress. I can’t wait to see how much money we save with a left wing pres. and left wing congress.

OUCH!! I just bit my tongue!!
