in Checking In

Very promising showing!

I know I’m not supposed to count my chickens and all that, but today was full of very good signs. We had our first weekday showing today and it has been a very promising one! Kelly of course beat feet when the time came to show the house so she never saw how long they were here. She did, however, pick up on a very valuable clue: our guests had sat down at our table!

To the uninitiated it may not sound important but it is in fact a huge occurrence. These prospects felt comfortable enough in our home to make themselves comfortable in it. For a moment at least, they sat and imagined what it would be like to live in our house. Most prospects tend to treat a home as a museum but not these prospects! Perhaps they even discussed their next steps towards making it their own.

Hearing Kelly’s discovery of that little clue made my spirits soar today. That’s a positive sign if I’ve ever seen one.

Not long after Kelly told me that news, I spied an enthusiastic visitor to our home’s website. The visitor came directly to the site (as if guided by our flier and not our Craigslist ad), lingered for a little while, and bookmarked the site no less than three times in a row! I’d never seen a visitor be quite so enthusiastic before.

If all this wasn’t enough, the coup de grace came this evening as I was readying the kids for bed. About an hour ago I was closing the window blinds when something caught my eye. A white SUV was doing the familiar “slow-roll” up to the house, but this time they didn’t make a beeline for the flier box. In fact, their eyes were only on the house: they were totally oblivious that they were blocking traffic.

It was the classic “ga ga” look: smitten with the house. I’ll bet you anything our prospects came by for another look, taking it in one last time before calling it a day. That wasn’t the ordinary drive-by by any means.

We haven’t heard from them yet and we may never hear from them. Ours is just one of many homes for sale. Still, with signs like this I can’t help thinking we’re about to make someone really happy.

Like I said, I’m not counting chickens yet … but I am dusting off the calculator!

  1. Yeah, but it means nothing. You can grouse when I have a check in my hand (and that may be a long way away).
