Turning fast food green

A few weeks ago we rewarded the kids for staying happy during a busy day by taking them to McDonald’s. As I ate I couldn’t help but notice the food packaging – it was made using recycled paper! The cups were paper as well. I whistled to myself at that. How could McDonald’s turn green and I didn’t even notice? Not that I’m their biggest customer or anything.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is Chick-fil-A. Chick-fil-A uses Styrofoam for their soft drinks : one of the few places still passing out Styrofoam to their customers (the other notable guilty party is Char-Grill. but their burgers are so good I forgive them). Almost everyone tosses these cups into the trash, where they become landfill fodder. Almost everyone.

Chick-Fil-A also routinely trashes the perfectly good cardboard boxes in which its waffle French fries are shipped to its restaurants. The savvy among us take advantage of this by phoning ahead and having these boxes put aside for later pickup. Chick-Fil-A French Fry boxes make outstanding moving boxes! (And yes, they smell just fine.)
