Highlights of 2007: Herndon High School Reunion

This year was the twenty-year reunion of the Herndon High School Class of 1987. It was held at a Reston hotel fairly close to the high school.

Looking back on it, I still think GreatReunions‘s effort was mediocre at best. If we’d rented a city-owned conference room and played music through an amplified iPod that would’ve been just fine. The dinner wasn’t anything to write home about and the bar charged $7 for drinks. What people really came for was to see everyone. Though there were many friends and acquaintances there I didn’t find out about some until the event was already over.

I’m considering staging the 25th reunion myself and making it casual and cheap. I’ll add more time to allow people to chill and just catch up, which is really what people want to do at these things anyway. I played a small role in organizing this last one, hosting its website and mailing list, so I think a more informal reunion won’t be too hard.
