in Checking In

Two steps forward, one back?

Just when I thought I was out of the woods with AT&T, I returned the second call I got yesterday, the one from Barbara Blatt. Ms. Blatt works at AT&T’s collection agency. I half-way listened to her spiel until her mention of the amount due brought me back from my daydreaming.

“Whoa, there,” I said. “This one’s $161.23? Is this something new?”

It turns out Bellsouth still thinks I’m EMU Software, as EMU didn’t pay its bill on its latest phone line. This one was installed in January of 2006 and disconnected just last month. I didn’t even know about this one, nor the location to which it was connected.

After explaining the situation to Ms. Blatt she marked the charge as disputed and would await AT&T’s decision. She even laughed with me as I told her the story! I’ve taken lots of calls from collection agency reps during this whole episode but she is the first truly nice person I’ve had to deal with.

My next call with AT&T will be to tell them to remove my name from all EMU Software files. This has long passed the point of being ridiculous.
