Turkey Day time off ticking away

The final minutes of my Thanksgiving holiday are ticking away. I have thoroughly enjoyed the four day weekend and the time with my family. I am grateful to have had the days off as a paid employee, as I have been a full-timer for a mere six weeks now. Though I won’t be climbing into a car tomorrow for a commute, I will still miss the “home” time I’ve had.

I’ve already written about the hike my family went on. Later that day we visited my parents’ house, where we joined my brother’s and sister’s families. We enjoyed the visit, watched the kids tear around, and of course feasted on wonderful food. The next day we did it all over again, adding my twin brother’s family to the mix. It makes me happy to see how happy my mom, dad, brothers and sister are. We all do have much to be thankful for.

We awoke again after 8 AM (heavenly!) and after breakfast hauled out the Christmas decorations and got to work. The tree positively delighted the kids: they clearly enjoy holiday festivities. We were taking a break for lunch when I glanced up at the woods to see a large hawk perched in a tree in our backyard. I got some photos of it before it flew off, though my telephoto lens isn’t as good as I’d like it to be. The hawk’s visit was nice, though.

After Travis was down for his nap, Kelly and Hallie made a trip to the library. Upon their return we continued decorating, this time the front porch. I was soon putting up garland by myself as Kelly and the kids began to gleefully chase each other, their cackles echoing around the darkening yard. It seemed only fitting our visual decorations would be joined by aural ones.

One thing I try to keep in mind is that nothing I experience will I ever experience the same way again, so I’m soaking up all I can. All in all, life is pretty good.
