Raleigh to host high speed rail summit

The N&O’s Crosstown Traffic blog reports that Raleigh will be hosting the conference Summit For High Speed Rail on the East Coast. The conference, sponsored by Women ‘s Transportation Seminar, is scheduled for Monday, 22 October in the Fletcher Opera Theatre at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. Transportation bigwigs, including congressional representatives, will be there to discuss the status of the project.

As a railfan whose house sits dozens of yards away from the CSX S line, formerly known as the Seaboard Air Line main line and soon to be known as the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor (SEHSR), I am intensely interested in the progress of this project. Alas, the updates to the SEHSR site have been slow going. I can’t afford to skip a day of work and pay the steep $150 conference fee. On the other hand, if I can help give this project a kick in the pants for a mere $150, it would be worth it.

I hope a good reporter or two from our fine media outlets can get the scoop on what goes on there.
