Work

Work has got me slammed, which is why I haven’t been posting much. I’ve been put in charge of finding a new office for the company and its driving me nuts.

If that wasn’t all, my boss has put in his resignation. I would be concerned about this if it weren’t that he’d been pursuing this opportunity for well over a year. One one hand, it could mean more work for me. On the other, it could be a chance for me to advance. Time will tell which way the chips fall.

Outside of my day job, taxes have been keeping me busy. I did my corporate taxes solo for the first time last weekend, thanks to H&R Block’s TaxCut for Business. It was surprisingly easy, and beats paying $400 for an accountant to click the mouse. In all honesty, I was in a time crunch to finish it and didn’t have time to shop for a new accountant, now that we’ve moved (my previous one was in Garner, which isn’t too convenient). Already, I’ve got leads on new accountants, which is cool.

Had a productive weekend, between basketball games of course. Did both personal and business taxes, cleaned the house, put away boxes that had been sitting around forever, installed new towel racks in the bathrooms, and even organized a closet or two. Thought of mowing the grass but decided it could wait a bit longer.

Speaking of which, we’re paying a buttload of money to a lawn service to fertilize the yard and provide weed control. As the weather has warmed, I’m seeing far too many weeds sprouting, and it pisses me off. Sometimes I wonder if all they do is hang the bill on the doornob and haul ass in their truck. It’s gotten so bad that Hallie was matter-of-factly telling our 8-year-old neighbor: “There is crabgrass in the yard. Daddy doesn’t like crabgrass.”

I’m going to demand they come out and provide a strategy for fixing things. I didn’t work so hard preparing the lawn last summer to let these guys screw it up. I’m paying for results!

Hallie and I put up some birdfeeders this weekend, one for finches and one for other birds. Neither one has been touched yet, it seems. Our lack of surrounding shrubs provides little cover for hungry birds. I’m hoping by the end of the summer, we’ll have some landscaping in place.

It’s exactly one month before our Italy vacation. I’m looking forward to relaxing, but not looking forward to all the lead-up to actually going. I’m a “be prepared” kind of guy. The thought of forgetting something I may later need is tough to overcome.

I’m also hoping to sneak in some blogging while we’re there. Since we don’t have internet links in our apartments, we’ll have to be creative. Don’t expect much while we’re away.

That catches you up, pretty much. Thank you, drive through.

  1. Mark,

No tribute to Paul Hester, Crowded House’s drummer, in your mighty blog??? … poor guy committed suicide this past weekend.
