R.I.P Heinous

I just found out by way of my friend Tanner that an old TriLUG friend died in a fall this month. Her name was Leah Kubik but we knew her by her IRC nickname of Heinous.

I’d only met her a few times in person but she was one of the few female Linux geeks I knew and had a quiet, sarcastic sense of humor. She moved from Raleigh to Toronto many years ago and I lost touch with her. Sad to hear of her untimely death at the age of 29.

  1. This is Leah’s mom. I have been wanting to connect with anyone that knew her and hear your stories and experiences with Leah. The news articles about the accident that you may have read are almost totally fabricated with the most accurate detail that she died in the accident. Our local paper did an article that was much more accurate and you can read it here if you’d like:

    Thank you for remembering her.

  2. Sue, I’m so sorry for your loss.

Leah was so full of life. I shared a few TriLUG lunches with Leah and didn’t get to know her as well as I could’ve. I do remember seeing her driving around town in her Saab convertible.

If you’d like, I can ask others for their Leah stories. I’m sure there are plenty!

    Mark
