Filling A Blank Page

I feel the need to write, but I don’t have a clue what to write about. So perhaps I’ll give a little info on what’s going on.

I’m starting my third week at my new gig. I’m juggling multiple “high priority” tasks at the same time, and doing a decent job keeping up with them. Its challenging and fun. And a little risky. I keep asking myself when I’m going to be through with start-ups. And the answer is always “next time.”

We’re looking forward to welcoming our newest member of the family. He gets here in nine days (or less). The pressure is building around here to get things done. Either way, it will be wonderful to greet the new kid.

Judging by the folks at the State Fair this weekend, Bush will win North Carolina. Another thing I learned is that Bush and Kerry supporters don’t particularly care for one another. How did this country get so divided? On the upside, voter registration is at an all-time high. So at least for once people care enough to vote. Or seem to, anyway.

I’ve been dreaming of faraway places. Ireland has been prominent in my mind recently. Makes me wonder if the elections or the New Kid are influencing that. It sucks that I’m getting the travel bug right when our travel is screeching to a halt for the forseeable future.

Why do mobile phone manufacturers saddle their phones with energy-eating color screens when monochrome ones would extend the battery life incredibly? What I really care about is battery life. The color screen might look flashy on the store shelf, but its downright useless for web browsing or anything else. Not very practical.

Kudos to my friend and former coworker Greg for taking to the skies again after a long absence from the left seat of the cockpit. Hearing of his progress is bittersweet: I’m happy for him and yet jealous as hell. It didn’t help matters to discover the CEO of my contracting job is a twin-engine, IFR-certified pilot with his own plane. Still, I hold out hope that I may one day take the controls myself.

I’ve got more pondering to do. Y’all have a nice evening.

  1. it’s precisely because your ability to travel is shrinking that your urge is surging. It just makes you think about it more.

  2. Mark, I wish you could have been up in the pattern with me last Sunday. You’ll get your pilot’s license, I am sure of that. I can hardly wait for info on the new kid! Keep us posted!
