I was going through my old bank statements last night when I realized a check from the State of North Carolina which I deposited three months ago never made it to my account. The check was a refund of payments I had made, and it was a significant sum.
The reason stamped on the check was “stale date.” The check clearly has a statement saying it becomes void after 90 days, which is fine by me, only I deposited it on day forty-nine! If you wonder why our country’s deficit is so high, it might be because the clowns at the Federal Reserve Bank can’t count.
My bank told me to ask the state to send another check, but I’m not sure with whom to speak or how long it might take. All the while, my money is sitting at the Federal Reserve and not in my wallet. D’oh.
