We got back this afternoon from Virginia and DC after a tremendously fun weekend. We visited Kelly’s parents, left our happy kids with them and then had a blast at the wedding last night. Kelly works as an editor and one of her long-time authors, Maya Ajmera, married David Hollander last night in an Indian and Jewish ceremony. Two weddings for the price of one! Kelly and I agreed it was the most fun we’ve had attending a wedding. The dancing and drumming was infectious, the food was fantastic, and the drinks were plentiful. It wasn’t long before everyone was enjoying themselves! It was fun to catch up with Kelly’s former Charlesbridge colleagues, too. I know now what made it such a great place to work.
I had fun mimicing the DJ, a large African-American man who’s forced calmness reminded me of a drill instructor’s right before he rips into you. Everything he said sounded like an ultimatum. With no charm in his voice, he’s say something like “I’m going to play the next song and I want to see everyone on the dance floor,” to which I’d embellish “…or I’m coming down there to break your arms.” Gotta give him credit, though: he filled the dance floor with the very first song, one of many thumping Indian pop songs we heard that night. I’ve never seen that happen at a wedding!
The whole thing lasted from 5 PM to past midnight, with Kelly and me bailing right before the end. We then had a fun brunch with everyone before heading our separate ways.
Now Kelly and I are running low on upcoming weddings to attend. Dang!
