One in Four Read No Books Last Year

Like my buddy Chris, I find this deeply troubling. I always have a book to read, though I don’t have as much time to read it as I’d like. I don’t think I’d ever have enough time to spend reading. I’d happily spend hours a day reading given the chance.

I picked this up from my mother, who unfailingly has a stack of thick books next to the couch at any point. Our kids have picked up the habit, too. They get an hour of storytime each day.

I know people today live active lives, but please! If you don’t have time for even one book, something’s majorly wrong.

  1. I agree; but, I have run into folk who feel they should only read books that teach something. Then they turn around and say it is too much like work; so, they don’t end up reading anything.

Maybe it is like swimming, once a child starts having fun at the pool, you can’t stop them from learning to swim. The pool becomes their natural environment. I suspect that people who like to read had fun doing it in their formative years. Now, nothing can stop them. They make time in a busy active life for one more fun activity.

  2. I cannot understand people who don’t read … we read to the babies every night (and during the day too) … I wish I had more time to read … my stack of books keeps growing … add that to the 12 magazines I subscribe to … I’m looking forward to retirement and being able to read all day.

    Matt
