I was thinking back to the devastation that Hurricane Katrina wrought on New Orleans last year. It reminded me of how utterly pathetic the current administration’s response was, as well as how it played on racial overtones. Then I remembered that my congressional representative is running for reelection against another wingnut playing the discrimination card. So, I made a contribution to Brad Miller’s campaign.
I hope you will, too.
Ol’ Robinson takes “Batshit Crazy” to levels only reached in the past by Alan Keyes. It’s really an art form, and he excels at it. Far too many people think he’s actually breathing sane air, though.
I agree 100% that the response from the current administation in New Orleans and Louisiana was pathetic. The Bush administration may have been slow to respond, but if local officials had performed their duties the feds would not have needed to play as big of a role.
The feds did help one of the local congressmen get his illegal thousands out of his freezer. That ought to count for something.
Hey, Todd, aren’t you a civil engineer? I would expect you to have at least half a clue about the magnitude of the destruction in New Orleans. Those levees are owned and maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers. City officials aren’t trained to put their flooded city back together. It was obvious drastic help and much greater expertise was needed and – for whatever reason – was not provided.
What this has to do with the crooked congressman is beyond me.
As if the hurricane was not devastating enough on its own, the levees (owned and maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers) gave way and flooded a good portion of the city. All of which was predicted by studies done prior to the cat 4-5 hurricane coming to shore. The local officials either did not have or did not follow their own evacuation plan.
Maybe if the Army Corps of Engineers was less concerned about hindering progress with all their wetlands bullcrap and were more concerned about actually doing something usefull, levees might hold under time of natural disasters.
You bring up a good point concerning the levees. I think there should be an investigation as to where the money went. The Bush administration provided more funding for the levees than did the previous adminstration. I do not know where that money went. I do not know if the money provided for the levees went to fixing/upgrading the levees. Ask the local politicians there. If the levees had been sized to withstand a cat 5 hurricane all of this discussion would not be taking place. The Bush-bashers would have to find something else to talk about.
As for the magnitude of destruction, I cannot imagine what those people have gone thru and are going thru.
