Highlights of 2009: Vacations

Every vacation is memorable, and we’re fortunate to be able to take occasional vacations. This year we were fortunate to have three significant trips.

In August we joined our friends the Chandler-Oakley’s in Boone to share their mountain cabin for a few days. It was great being in the mountains and the weather could not have been more perfect. We enjoyed our company and had a great time hiking around the various parks.

Kelly and I followed that trip with one to New Hampshire for our ten year anniversary in September. It was a great time with just Kelly and me, exploring this beautiful state.

It seemed like a long time until our anticipated Thanksgiving reunion at Panama City Beach. It was great seeing my relatives and great being back at the beach by which all other beaches are judged. There’s something special about being at the beach in the offseason. It’s a totally different vibe: not necessarily better or worse, but different. We had a great time visiting, relaxing, and exploring and before we knew it it was time to go home. The kids, however, are smitten with the beach and won’t soon forget this trip.

I think travel makes one a better person. I look forward to the trips we have in store for us in 2010.
