Just found out that Travis has croup, which sucks (literally – ha!) but is preferable to pneumonia. I can ease my troubled mind a bit, though I wish I was with them to help out.

You never get used to the sound of a croupy cough!!!

When ours had croup we used to spend a lot of time in the bathroom with the shower running to make it very humid. But that was in Germany in the winter time. I suppose this time of year in Raleigh you could just take him outside or open a window.
Croup is bad but whooping cough is the worst. The German doctors were concerned about some problem with the vacine so my two girls didn’t get vacinated against it and both came down with it after a birthday party. we used to play “ding-dong” where I would hold them by their feet and swing them back and forth slowly like a big bell. It seemed to make it a bit easier for them to clear their lungs.
The 5 year old had a problem getting over the cough so I took her with me on a business trip to the US and left her with my mother in hot humid Florida for 6 weeks. That cured the cough and she also learned to speak English.

Actually, its quite dry here now. There is a “red flag” warning due to the drought – everthing’s extremely dry. An apartment fire this week quickly destroyed 22 apartments.
My weather graphs showed humidity levels dropping into the teens as the temperature climbed into the 100s.
The good news is that Travis is doing better, and his spirits are up! One day he’ll probably only remember his exciting ambulance ride. 🙂
