WRAL Serves Up Podcasts

Raleigh’s Capitol Broadcasting loves to get ahead of the crowd when it comes to cool new stuff. Capitol’s WRAL-TV was the first television station in the country to broadcast in high-definition. WRAL-FM is one of the first to broadcast in digital stereo. Now Capitol is in the leading edge again: offering podcasts of its programming.

If there’s a more innovative broadcaster around, I haven’t found it.

  1. … was also North carolina’s most powerful FM station, with 250,000 watts from 990 feet on the old tower. The slogan was “from Hatteras to Hickory.” And you could hear the station at both ends of the slogan, too. They dropped that to 100,000 watts at 1970 feet when WRAL-TV became the first NC TV (or FM) station with a 2000-foot tower. Then it became the first with another 2000-foot tower after the first one fell down in an ice storm.

  2. Nice catch! I just subscribed to a couple of the podcasts.

  3. We did not find Capitol Broadcasting to be very innovative.

    Sincerely,
