I read Doc Searls’s weblog every day because he and I share a lot of interests. One of those interests is free speech, especially in relation to the Internet and radio. I followed post on Doc’s page which brought me to some great commentary on the now-defunct Communications Decency Act.
It was written by a retired Texas judge by the name of Steve Russell. Steve uses some salty language to prove his point, so be forewarned. You can have a look at THE X-ON CONGRESS: INDECENT COMMENT ON AN INDECENT SUBJECT here.
By the way, here are the two questions I submitted for Mr. Powell:
1. How will you restore competition to radio now that monopolistic corporations have squeezed nearly all the life out of it?
2. With the phenomenal success of unlicensed devices like devices using WiFi, what are you doing to open up more spectrum to unlicensed innovation?
Neither totally earth-shattering. Given another chance, I would have also quizzed him on the ridiculous hissy fit the FCC’s thrown about Janet Jackson’s boob. Maybe next time.
We’ll see if Powell actually answers them (though the News and Observer didn’t mention any place to go for answers.
