I’m looking for some audio editing tools for Linux to do a little work on a fun project. If you’ve got some pointers for me, please post them with comments. Thanks!

What kind of editing are you planning on doing?
If you mean wav editing, like sound forge, Audacity is the way to go. For hard-disk recording, Ardour is as good as the $500 packages you get for windows or mac.
There’s tons more specialist programs depending on what you want to do…
For this one project, I just need something to cut bigger WAVs into smaller ones. Looks like Audacity works for me.
I’ll keep Ardour in mind for some other projects I’m planning, like song composition. I didn’t know something of this caliber existed for Linux.
Thanks for the tips!
Audacity is the bee’s knees. I use it for all the stuff I do with audio files at ComedyWorx. It can natively do aiff/wav, mp3, and ogg. Lots of neat simple effects, multitrack support, etc.
I’ve been playing with medialinux, a knoppix-variant that focuses on multi-media utilities.
If this is a one-time project or you don’t want to mess with getting Audacity built/installed, this might be an easier path.
Enjoy!
I haven’t heard of medialinux, but it sounds pretty cool. Thanks for the tip!
