Raising Money For Preemies With The March Of Dimes

Its that time again when Kelly and I raise money for the March of Dimes through their annual WalkAmerica event. Our friends and family have been incredibly generous in their giving. Last year we raised a whopping $1,600: more money than a lot of the company donors who participated! That money will go towards vital research towards preventing premature births – a problem which cuts across all walks of life.

Kelly’s taking a more active role this year by helping organize this year’s event. You can help by pitching in toward our goal of $1,800. With your help, we can get there!

Once again, we ask you to support Hallie’s Team as we raise money for this worthy cause. And thanks once again for your generous support!

Now here’s Kelly:

Dear Friends and Family-

Spring is arriving in North Carolina. For us that means warmer, longer days. It also means it’s time for this year’s WalkAmerica fundraising. We had a great walk last year, and we are really looking forward to this year’s event.
As I comment each year, I dislike sending bulk emails, and I really don’t like asking people for money. But even more than that, I hate the effects premature birth can have on babies and their families. As most of you know, our Hallie was born 11 weeks early. Today she is thriving beyond our wildest dreams, and we consider every day with her a treasure. We also know she wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the incredible care she received at WakeMed and the work supported by the March of Dimes’ WalkAmerica.

Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death in the first month of life. It affects 1,305 babies a day in the United States. Those who survive may have lifelong health problems. Premature birth can happen to any pregnant woman. In nearly half the cases, the causes are unknown. The March of Dimes is leading the way to find answers by supporting research into the causes of premature birth.

Each year we are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and the generous donations so many of you make. Last year we raised nearly $1600 and were commended for reaching one of the highest totals for a family team in this area. So, once again we’re asking you to contribute to this important cause. This year we’re shooting for $1800. We want to help other families of premature babies experience outcomes as positive as ours!

This year’s Triangle-area walk will be held on April 21st in RTP. It’s a great family event, with food and entertainment and an incredible spirit of camaraderie. I’m in charge of coordinating the mascots from local schools and teams, and it looks like we’re going to have a good turnout of characters! We hope many of our local friends and family will join us for a fun-filled day supporting a cause that can truly make a difference.

Please join in to help fight prematurity and support the Walk that saves babies. Making a contribution is easy through my WalkAmerica web page: http://www.walkamerica.org/Kellyturner And if you know of others interested in this cause, please let me know or feel free to forward this email far and wide. Thanks for your support!

With love and gratitude,

Kelly, Mark, Hallie, and Travis Turner
