Here’s a video showing Mitt Romney apparently pulling something out of his pocket that looks for all the world like pre-written notes. Pre-written notes are not allowed by the Commission on Presidential Debates, which means that if this is what it appears Mitt Romney has been caught cheating.
Some have said that what he is pulling out is a handkerchief but if so it’s such a well-starched handkerchief that it bounces when it hits the podium.
If Romney cheated during Wednesday’s debate, it may not be the first time. Here’s a video purporting to show Romney during a Republican debate of 2008, apparently getting help from an unseen voice when responding to a question Tim Russert asked about Reagan and Social Security.
I don’t know if the voice has been added afterward or not. If the clip is a fake, it shows perfect timing as Romney does take a beat or two to respond as if he were waiting for a cue. My guess is that the voice belongs to another one of the debate participants as it sounds like the audio came from a microphone plugged into the studio sound system.
Update 6:50 PM: I’m chasing shadows now. It’s a handkerchief. Mea culpa. That’s what I get for trying to do too many things at once. Sigh.
