Cheap Thoughts: going downhill

Why is it bad when something is said to be “going downhill?” I mean, going downhill means coasting, right? How is “going uphill” any better?

    I get much better fuel mileage going downhill.

  2. Because generally it’s in the context of trying to go up and in that context if you’re not actively either moving up or holding still you’ll end up going down which is not what you want.
