House moves this Saturday

LNR Properties will be moving two historic Raleigh homes Saturday morning beginning at 7AM (weather-permitting). The Watson and Merrimon Wynne homes will be shifted to new lots as part of the Blount Street Commons project, with the Watson home moving first.

If you’ve ever wanted to see a home being trucked from one place to another you’ve got two chances Saturday!

Here’s what Doug Redford of LNR Properties sent to a neighborhood mailing list:

There has been a slight change of plans for the house moves of the Watson and Merrimon-Wynne homes. The move will take place on Saturday, August 23rd with a rain date of Sunday the 24th. This is a change of dates.

Our basic schedule is to start work at 7 am. The utility companies will have to lower the utilities from the poles first on both Blount and Polk Streets. They will do this without cutting off service to anyone. At about 8:30 am we will block off Blount Street, place
wooden blocks across the street and start moving the homes. The Watson Home will come first. It will cross Blount Street into our vacant lot, and then cross Polk Street to its permanent site behind the Murphey School. As soon as that is done, we will move the
Merrimon-Wynne home across Blount Street to the lot at the corner of Blount and Polk Streets.

If all goes according to plan, we should be done by the middle of the afternoon.
