We Got It!!!!!1!111!!!!

We did it! We got our new home! The call came in about a half hour ago! It’s ours!

Our final offer increased to $100 over asking price, but we left in the closing costs (and warranty). The ball was then in their court. We were told to expect a call between 5 and 7 tonight, but by 8:30, we were starting to get doubts. Until the phone rang, that is!

So, barring any meteor strikes between now and then, we’ll be moving into 8321 Hobhouse Circle after June 16th. Woohoo!

  1. At 2,040 square feet, you’ll have lots of room for your kids. The space over the garage has “Mark’s playroom” written all over it. 🙂 What will your drive to work be like from there?

Yahoo maps showed some train tracks nearby. How close are they to your house? Do you think you’ll have a noise problem? There are tracks about a 1/2 mile from mine, but there is a thick buffer of woods that muffles the sound.

  2. I’m not sure how the drive will look, but my coworker comes from Youngsville, so I can’t complain about N. Raleigh!

Tracks border the property. Neighbors say the trains only run during the day and they don’t really notice them. That track is going to be part of the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor, running 110 MPH passenger trains between Washington and Charlotte. I spent some time last night going over the track changes and whatnot on the site. Pretty cool stuff, actually.

The high-speed trains probably won’t arrive for another 10-15 years, if that. I’m a big supporter of rail travel, so I’m looking forward to its arrival.

  3. Get the train to stop at your house and it’ll make your business travel easier!

  4. I grew up next to a small rail line for the local factory. There were trains early in the morning. When I left home, I would wake up early in the morning and not know why. I finally figured out that I had gotten used to the train noise and missed it!? You won’t notice after a little bit.

I highly recomend watch “The Triplets of Bellvue” for an interesting view on regular train traffic.

  5. I thought about that. Our agent told us a station was going in at Durant Road, but the SEHSR plans don’t show one there. Or they do, but it’s pretty ambiguous where its going.

Sure would be nice to travel to DC in 4 hours by rail (6 from Charlotte. Not too shabby).

  6. The Durant Rd. stop will be for the TTA regional Rail (www.ridetta.org), not the SEHSR. Catch me sometime and I can give you MUCH more information.
